Summer Cocktails at Shoryu Ramen

Shoryu is one of London's leading ramen restaurants, offering a seasonal and affordable selection of delicious Japanese cuisine.  Ramen is a speciality here, but the menu offers an array of sushi and other delicious snacks, and Shoryu has been a firm favourite with Love Japan since it first opened in London.  Shoryu currently have several branches dotted around the west end (Carnaby Street, Soho and Regent Street) and one in Liverpool street and will soon be opening in Covent Garden and Shoreditch.

Now that summer is nearly upon us, Shoryu's chief mixologist Vicky, has put together a tantalising new summer cocktail menu, which we were lucky enough to be invited to sample.

A perfect accompaniment to their fresh and healthy menu, the four cocktails that we tried all complimented the food beautifully.  Happy Hour at Shoryu is Mon - Thurs 5pm - 7pm (all cocktails £6) so perhaps some after work refreshments are in order...

Akai Rhubarb (created by Gabriel Ibanescu, Shoryu Liverpool Street Bar Supervisor)

Containing josen sake, bombay gin and aperol, shaken with homemade rhubarb syrup and a rhubarb garnish, the Akai Rhubarb is a delicious mix of sweet and sour flavours.

Natsu No Watermelon

Fresh watermelon and strawberry mixed with cointreau and schochu.  Shochu is similar to vodka, and is made from either grains / vegetables such as barley or potatoes, and the sweetness of the watermelon and strawberry compliment it perfectly.

Mango Suppai

Yuzu umeshu (yuzu is a Japanese citrus and umeshu is plum) infused with genmai (puffed corn) tea, frangelico hazlenut liqueur, josen sake, finished with fresh mango.  A slightly thicker consistency due to the mango, this cocktail is a feast for the senses, and has many layers of taste.

Nikkei Rose

Made with a mix of namazake (unpasteurised sake), pisco, fresh pink grapfruit juice, syrup and a touch of rose water.  The Nikkei Rose is both sweet and sour with a lovely flowery undertone.
